A fine heritage
The name of Reid & Taylor has a history that stretches back over 170 years and the business is still based in its birthplace of Langholm in the Scottish Borders.
Inspired by the local area, Alexander Reid realised he had all the ingredients he needed to produce a special cloth utilising the local Cheviot wool, soft clear waters from the River Esk and a nucleus of hard working craftsmen.
In 1839 he joined forces with a local financier, Joseph Taylor, and the firm of Reid & Taylor was born.
Ever since the Reid & Taylor brand has stood for innovative design and fabulous quality.
But just because we have been producing cloths in three different century’s doesn’t mean we are stuck in the past – our exciting collection of distinctive fabrics evolves to reflect the trends currently in vogue.
This strength has been recognised by many textile organisations around the world with Reid & Taylor receiving numerous design awards as well as the prestigious Queens Award for Export.
Princess Margaret, other members of the Royal family and iconic celebrities such as Gregory Peck have all joined us at fashion shows from Venice to the internationally renowned Gleneagles Hotel here in our Scotland homeland.
Our collections have been compared to that of the “Scottish Colourists”, a group of post – impressionist painters from 1920s and 1930s known for their highly developed use of colour.
Today we invite you to view our fabrics at the key textile exhibitions around the world, from “JITAC” in Tokyo to “Premier Vision” in Paris.
